Comment on today’s abolition of a number of NHS waiting-time standards
Andy Burnham MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, commenting on today’s abolition of a number of NHS waiting-time standards, said:
“Labour’s waiting-time standards brought NHS waiting lists down to a record low – after the 1990s when people could be waiting years for operations.
“Now the NHS is going backwards under David Cameron and waiting lists are at a seven-year high. Patients will wonder how scrapping these standards will help improve that situation.
“The Government should be trying to get things back on track and ensure patients have quicker access to treatment, rather than focussing on moving the goalposts.”
